Madonna continues to prove she’s a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Pollstar’s mid-year report revealed that the Queen of Pop’s “Celebration” tour is the highest-grossing tour of 2024 thus far.
The “Celebration” tour, which kicked off in October 2023 and concluded in May 2024, boasted impressive numbers. With an average ticket price of $208.85 and an average gross of $2.79 million per show, the tour sold over 856,247 tickets across the reported 34 shows. This translates to a total gross of over $96 million for just that leg of the tour.
While Madonna currently holds the title, the plot might twist as the year progresses. Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour, which began in March 2024, is not included in Pollstar’s mid-year report. In December 2023, “Eras” was declared the highest-grossing tour of all time, surpassing the $1 billion mark. If Swift chooses to report her 2024 tour figures, Madonna’s reign at the top could be short-lived.
Madonna and Swift’s potential battle for the top spot highlights the resilience of the live music industry. After facing challenges due to the pandemic, 2024 has seen a significant comeback. The global live music industry grossed over $3 billion for the first time, with North America’s top earners being Bad Bunny, Madonna, and U2.
